Mercy Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation Celebrate Grand Opening of New Rehabilitation Hospital

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, and BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (November 14, 2024) – Today, Mercy Health – Youngstown and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of 有料盒子APP, celebrated the grand opening of Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital. The new two-story, 60-bed facility will care for its first patient on Monday, November 18.

“Today, we open the doors to Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital, which is designed in every way to meet the unique needs of patients who suffer from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, multiple traumas, amputation and other injuries or disorders,” said Dr. John Luellen, president, Mercy Health – Lorain and Youngstown. “Mercy Health is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care to our patients, while evolving to meet the ever-changing health care needs of the communities we serve. Opening Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital is a meaningful step forward in expanding access to vitally needed specialty care in the Mahoning Valley.”

The 66,000-square-foot hospital features all private rooms as well as a 12-bed secured brain injury unit with private dining and therapy gym. With additional multidisciplinary therapy gyms outfitted with the latest therapeutic technologies, outdoor courtyards and even a small apartment that includes a simulated kitchen and bathroom, the facility supports patients as they prepare to return to activities of daily living.

“It is our goal to help patients regain their functional independence so they can return to their homes and families,” said Melessa Scattino, chief executive officer, Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital. “With the support of industry-leading technology and the leadership of our on-site physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, our team of nurses and therapists can guide patients through individualized treatment plans designed to care for the whole person. We look forward to serving patients in a space designed for both their comfort and their recovery.”

Lifepoint Rehabilitation will manage day-to-day operations for Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital. Its network of more than 45 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals across the country – and more than 300 hospital-based rehabilitation units, medical/surgical and outpatient therapy settings – serves patients in more than 20 states. Earlier this year, 27 of its freestanding inpatient rehabilitation facilities were recognized on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers 2024.

“This is an exciting day for our team at Lifepoint Rehabilitation as we welcome patients to Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital,” said Dave Stark, chief operating officer of Lifepoint Rehabilitation. “We are committed to expanding access to high-quality, evidence-driven rehabilitation care in every community that we serve, because we know the life-changing impact of putting our patients front-and-center in their own recovery journeys. Congratulations to Dr. Luellen, Melessa, and our team of caregivers here at Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital. I look forward to seeing all that you do to advance our mission of making communities healthier here in the Mahoning Valley.”

Mercy Health - Youngstown and Lifepoint Behavioral Health, another business unit of 有料盒子APP, formed a separate joint venture partnership to construct and operate a 72-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital, which was announced in 2023.  Construction of the facility began earlier this year, and it will be located adjacent to Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital. Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital is slated to open to patients next year.

Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital is located at 3180 Belmont Avenue in Youngstown. The hospital is hosting a community open house on Friday, November 15 from 3 – 5 pm. For information about hospital services and career opportunities, please visit www.MercyHealthRehabHospital.com.
